About
Our History
In the Late 1880’s Ben Skalet, a skilled Russian goldsmith, arrived in New York City to make his way in the world.
Ben and his two sons worked hard and built a growing business designing and manufacturing fine jewelry.
During World War II the Skalet family designed and made surgical equipment to help with the war effort.
After the war, Skalet continued what they do best and grew into a larger company creating fine jewelry for some of America’s finest jewelers.
It was in the late 1960’s when John Skalet decided to go out on his own and pursue a dream. John’s dream was to design and create artistic jewelry and work closely with the clients. In 1973 John and his wife Barbara opened Golden Treasures in Tahoe City, Lake Tahoe. The store thrived and soon John was creating his own unique styles.
In 1975 Golden Treasures moved to Sacramento and expanded their shop to help with the expanding customer base.
In 1982 Howard Skalet now the Fourth Generation joined the family business after completing the comprehensive courses at the Gemological Institute of America. Adam Skalet after years of apprenticeship and training at the Revere Academy of Jewelry Arts began to add his own unique designs and creative talent to the family business.
In 1983 with the Fourth Generation active in the family business we formally changed the name to Skalet Family Jewelers.
Todd Sullivan has joined our family adding his amazing talents as master jeweler and designer. Skalet Family Jewelers enjoys the deep satisfaction of creating personal pieces of jewelry to mark the special events in people’s lives. Our extended family of customers now spans generations.
